Book Launch–Charleston: Race, Water, and the Coming Storm

  • The Climate Museum Pop-Up 120 Wooster Street New York, NY, 10012 United States (map)

We celebrated the publication of Susan Crawford’s brilliant and illuminating new book, Charleston: Race, Water, and the Coming Storm. Crawford weaves together the vibrant stories of Charleston residents to create a “sweeping and unflinching” portrait of a city that has played a central role in American racism for centuries (Jeff Goodell). Now, as the waters rise, Charleston stands at the intersection of climate and race—and thus stands for our need for change. Susan discussed her new book with Dr. Margaret Washington, Marie Underhill Noll Professor of American History at Cornell University, author of the definitive biography Sojourner Truth’s America, and a prominent scholar and public voice on Black history, women’s history, and the American South.

Freshly printed books were available for sale and signing by the author at this launch event. The dialogue was followed by ample time for audience Q&A, and refreshments will be served.

This event was presented in partnership with Rebuild by Design.
