WRITE A CAPTION
Welcome to the Climate Museum’s caption contest for Tom Toro’s famous climate cartoon “Yes, the planet got destroyed.”
For more background, see our announcement of the generous gift of Tom’s original drawing, which also links to delightful interviews of Tom; Seth Heald, the Virginia climate advocate who generously donated the work to us; and Bob Mankoff, the longtime New Yorker cartoon editor who selected the work for publication.
We’re excited to see your submissions!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Come up with a new caption—it can be something entirely new or you can keep “Yes, the planet got destroyed.” and fill in the rest.
Download a template below and add your caption.
Post your modified cartoon on social media, tagging both the Climate Museum (Instagram, Bluesky, LinkedIn) and Tom Toro (Instagram, Bluesky, LinkedIn), and email a screenshot of your post to info@climatemuseum.org.
Spread the word to anyone else who may want to participate!
We’ll accept submissions through the end of Climate Week, Sunday, September 28, and announce the winners on Monday, September 29.
PRIZES:
There will be one winner and five runner-ups, all of whom we'll publicize. The winner will receive a large, framed giclée print of their modified cartoon, signed by Tom. The runner-ups will receive a postcard-sized print of their modified cartoon, signed by Tom.
