March Reminders
First-time marchers welcome! Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
What to Wear
Check the weather forecast beforehand! We recommend wearing closed-toed walking shoes and clothing that you will feel comfortable in for a couple of hours. Consider bringing layers.
What to Bring
Bring a water bottle, a snack, sunscreen, a portable phone charger, and your own protest signs if you have them (see the next section).
Protest Signs
When the Climate Museum organizes a contingent, we offer a limited number of custom signs that are distributed on a first come, first served basis. You can also make and bring your own posters! Please remember that NYC law prohibits the use of wooden and other hard handles for protest posters.
Nonviolence
The marches we attend adhere to the principle of nonviolence. This might also entail seeking to de-escalate any potential confrontation with hecklers who may be present. If you are interested in learning more about de-escalation at protests, you can check out this article.
Your Rights
We understand that people might be feeling particularly vulnerable about engaging in protest at this time. There are some extra steps you can take to protect yourself and your rights. We recommend you read the ACLU’s article about your rights to protesting in New York and how to protect your privacy at protests. Most of the marches where we will have a contingent will be sizable, and there is safety in numbers.
WhatsApp Group
If you RSVP to join the Climate Museum at a march, you’ll be invited to join our WhatsApp Group for communication day-of.
